The Hong Kong Palace Museum of Culture and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Hong Kong Polytechnic University) signed a cooperation agreement on the 18th to jointly establish the China Textile Arts Center. The Center will make good use of the nearly 3000 pieces of Chinese textile art donated to the museum by He Qisi, a Chinese textile art collector, to promote the global research and inheritance of Chinese ancient textile art through academic research, teaching, training, public education and publishing projects.

Under the witness of Kong Lingcheng, chairman of the board of directors of the Palace Museum of Culture of Hong Kong, Lin Dahui, chairman of the board of directors of the University of Hong Kong, Teng Jinguang, president of the University of Hong Kong, and Feng Chengshuyi, chief executive of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, Wu Zhihua, director of the Palace Museum of Culture of Hong Kong, and Yang Liwei, vice president of the University of Hong Kong, signed a cooperation agreement on behalf of both parties.

China Textile Arts Center will provide important resources for teaching, research and outreach activities for the Humanities College, Fashion and Textile College, Design College, etc. of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and let teachers and students study closely the collections that He Qisi promised to donate to the Palace Museum of Culture in Hong Kong. The University will also make good use of the collections as teaching materials and plan to offer courses related to the history of Chinese textiles and silk. At the same time, the University will also jointly run educational projects with museums, including thematic courses, seminars, workshops and publications.

Kong Lingcheng said that the China Textile Art Center is an important platform to promote the research of Chinese textile culture, allowing the young generation to explore the history and cultural heritage of Chinese textiles, and demonstrating the mission of both sides to inherit the excellent traditional Chinese culture.

Lin Dahui said that the establishment of the Center marks an important step forward for the Hong Kong PolyU and the Hong Kong Palace Museum of Culture in promoting the research, education, inheritance and innovation of Chinese textile culture. This cooperation will give full play to the advantages of both sides, through different ways, let precious textile collections exert greater influence in research, teaching, contemporary fashion, design and other fields, improve global understanding and appreciation of ancient Chinese textile art, inherit excellent Chinese culture, and consolidate Hong Kong's position as a center of cultural and artistic exchanges between China and foreign countries.
